Why Stay In A Cob Cottage of

  • Thermal Mass: Earth is excellent at storing heat, and it helps to regulate interior temperature by slowing down the rate of heat transfer. For example, when the external temperature is hot (sun blasting on an earthen wall), it stays cool inside...then at night when temperatures drop, the stored energy of daytime sun continues to transfer to the interior space to keep it warm. In winter weather, radiant heat from a wood stove "charges" walls from inside out, and an earthen building maintains a stable temperature throughout the night, often without even stoking the fire.
  • Hydroscopic: Cob is a "moisture fly wheel". The clay in the cob helps to take the moisture out of the room if humidity is too high, conversely it provides moisture if air is too dry.
  • Fire-Proof: Earth does not burn.
  • Breathability: Cob walls breathe with humidity and temperature. Instead of being sealed, thus requiring forced air using HVAC systems, a cob building self-regulates because it is permeable.
  • Curative: Clay is hypo-allergenic and has been proven to absorb toxins in the air, thus purifying and improving air quality in living spaces. It has been used as a healing medicine for thousands of years.
  • Clay and clay plaster (vs conventional paint) is non-toxic and contains no VOC's or off gassing
  • Cob naturally resists mold growth
  • Cob is a regenerative building material that can always be reused, decreasing our carbon footprint of material transportation, industrial mining, industrial processing. All materials can be composted back to the earth instead of entering the waste stream.
  • Cob is long lasting, durable and easy to repair: Earthen homes can literally last for thousands of years with proper maintenance.
  • Cob enhances your Psychological Well Being: Human beings have evolved in nature surrounded with a design concept referred to as Repetition with Variation. Most all industrial building products have repetition WITHOUT variation which creates stress in our internal biology. Our homogeneous living spaces are completely contrary to nature and how homo-sapiens have evolved within shelter. Building with Cob stimulates our senses with undulating surfaces and textures which helps to nourish the inhabitant's well being.
  • Cob has auditory benefits: Sound enhancing on the interior while muting exterior noise helps to create a quiet cozy space
  • Cob is responsive to the environment rather than resistant
  • We have planted 4,00,000 trees since 1992. The furniture and other wooden construction have been done using the wood of dead trees. No tree has been cut for that purpose.
  • General Amenities: All the rooms have Study table, Sofa, Attached Washroom. The rooms are designed in accordance with Vastu Shastra.
